Our Voices, our Schools - May 2009

 
CBLThis month, We are doing something a little differently. On May 6th, Chalkboard asked nearly 70 teachers and administrators six questions concerning education at our "Conversation with Oregon Teachers" in Cottage Grove. Below you will find some of those questions, along with a sampling of the responses. What support would be most useful to you in meeting your personal and professional goals as a teacher?
"Have some unstructured meeting time where teachers set the agenda and work with colleagues who have similar needs or challenges."
"More feedback from experienced teachers visiting my classroom..."

Would professional learning teams support your teaching?
"Yes, but it is neccessary to have something in common to work toward, such as content area, grade level, teaching strategies, etc."

As a classroom teacher what are your biggest challenges?
"Classroom management -- How to keep students from being too social and staying on task."
"Behavior management. It makes or breaks a teacher."

What would be the most effective support you could receive from Chalkboard?

"Increase community value in education and public awareness about school needs."
"Advocate for the mentor program and professional development."
