PORTLAND - February 17, 2010 - Dan Jamison, current Sherwood School District Superintendent, will bring his experience and leadership to the Chalkboard Project beginning August 1st in the role of Vice President of Education Policy. Kate Dickson, who currently holds the position, is leaving Oregon to begin a year of travels with her husband. She will continue to provide strategic council to the Chalkboard Project while on the road.
Dickson has led the CLASS (Creative Leadership Achieves Student Success) Project, an initiative to empower educators and raise student achievement, for the past three years. Since shaping the project in 2006-2007, Dickson has shepherded its growth from three Oregon school districts to a total of twelve, representing approximately one out of every six Oregon students.
Jamison has been a pioneer of the CLASS Project in his school district. Before he joined Sherwood in 2005, Jamison held positions as a language arts teacher, athletic director, department chair and elementary, middle school and high school principal. Jamison obtained a B.A. in history from Washington State University and an EdM from Oregon State University.
"Dan Jamison has pioneered important work around teacher leadership and effectiveness in Sherwood. Dan's experience implementing the CLASS Project as a superintendent will be invaluable to districts across the state that want to consider innovative ways to empower educators and raise student achievement," said Sue Hildick, Chalkboard Project President.
Jamison's primary responsibility with the Chalkboard Project will be to help guide the CLASS Project school districts through the design and implementation of comprehensive career models for their educators. Jamison will also advise Chalkboard on policy issues related to moving Oregon's K-12 education system into the top ten nationally.
Kate Dickson's work to improve education in Oregon began in the classroom and her career has included positions as a principal, assistant superintendent, Associate Executive Director for COSA, State Deputy Superintendent and leadership consultant.
"Leadership and innovation for increasing the quality of teaching and learning in every Oregon classroom is the heart of Chalkboard and the CLASS Project. It has been an honor to be part of this landmark effort. Dan Jamison will bring great talent and energy to moving forward Chalkboard's mission-Uniting Oregonians to raise student achievement and make our schools among the nation's best," said Kate Dickson.
Jerry Hudson, Chalkboard Project Board Chair stated, "Kate Dickson has championed important work for the educators and students of Oregon. We fully expect that under Dan Jamison's leadership the CLASS Project will continue to gain momentum and the districts involved will continue to see promising results."
