Hello! My name is Melissa Mullineaux and I am a first-year teacher. I am teaching 6th grade English at a public middle school in Washington, D.C. I interned for the Chalkboard Project assisting in management of the CLASS Project during the summer of 2009. I look forward to sharing the many challenges and highlights of my first year!

Chalkboard is grateful to Mollie Dickson for sharing her experiences in the education world over the last year. As she navigated her Masters in Education program and her first student-teaching opportunities, Mollie shared with us her excitement, frustrations, joys and successes. We congratulate her on her significant achievements!
Now, as Mollie moves in to her new position as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher, she will be joined on this blog by a fellow first-year teacher. Melissa Mullineaux, our summer CLASS intern, will be blogging from her own 6th grade classroom in Washington, DC. Readers will get the chance to see how similar or different the experiences of two first-year teachers can be.
We encourage readers to engage with Mollie and Melissa; ask questions, provide feedback, share innovate practices or offer words of encouragement. We share Mollie’s, and now Melissa’s, blog entries as insight into the first-hand experiences of those who have taken on the responsibility of educating our children. We hope that these stories inspire, encourage or inform educators and all Oregonians concerned with the future of our schools.
