Chalkboard is applying for a federal Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) grant to help support the work of our 12 CLASS districts around educator effectiveness and student achievement. For an overview of how the grant aligns with Chalkboard's goals, take a look at our one-pager. You can also look at the National Eduction Association's statement on the funds.
CLASS (Creative Leadership Achieves Student Success) is an innovative education initiative that focuses on four components of effective teaching to raise student achievement. Click on any component to learn more about its place in the CLASS Project:
CLASS is transforming the teaching profession by fostering a culture of leadership and learning in Oregon classrooms.
Teachers like CLASS because they are rewarded for leading the way to higher student achievement.
CLASS results in better classroom instruction, more successful teachers and higher student achievement.
Time and again, research shows that teachers are the single most important factor in determining whether and how well students learns. In fact, a teacher's influence on student achivement is a full 20 times greater than the effect of any other variable, including class size and poverty*.
CLASS helps recruit and retain highly effective teachers. Nearly 40% of Oregon’s new teachers leave the profession within their first five years.
CLASS lowers the high cost of teacher turnover. Oregon currently spends $45 million a year on teacher turnover costs.
Through CLASS, districts align their school improvement plans to raise student achievement with professional development and performance evaluations. Educators set student achievement goals and work together towards improving teaching and learning in the district.
